What's Really Important ?

Outside of the NIC Unit, there is this sign that you see Melanie is looking at in the picture. It lists folks who made good size financial contributions to the NIC Unit. There are two names listed under the million dollar donation place. The same last name for the two families listed.
I suspect there is a very personal story connected to the donations made by that family.
You realized seeing that, that there are times in life when money, things, stuff, cars, houses, bank accounts etc mean so little when a life is at stake. All the names listed on the sign no doubt had very personal reasons and experiences that prompted them to make such large and sacrificing contributions. It just proves that in life, stuff means so little when compared to the really important things in life.
Melanie is looking at the names, grateful to each person listed, knowing that each donation made has helped her own baby be cared for in such a high tech, fully staffed and comfortable way.

On the nightstand next to Melanie's bed is a white teddy bear, given to her and Casi at the NIC Unit. Its a prayer bear. There are volunteers who donate the bears to parents of babies in the Unit. The parents fill out a little card, listing the babies name, then volunteers commit to praying for that baby. Mei-Ling also has a tiny knitted hat, made with love by another group of volunteers. She has a little pillow under hear face that is soft and lightly scented with Lavender, to sooth her, again, made by tender hearted volunteers. At her head a blanket like doll, that holds the scent of her mommy. Made by volunteers for the sick tiny ones.
So many people helping out, kindnesses. People who know that from the smallest donation to the largest are things that are really important.
We do live in a world where many good people have learned what is really important in life and it ends up never being about the stuff we own.
