Mei-Lings Trip To Disney World

A Whole New World Project: The Castle Awaits Princess Mei | Mission Trip -

With much gratitude, the money was raised for Mei-Ling and her family to go to Disney World but now, despite putting in a request months ago, Wal-Mart in Cleburne TX has denied Casi's vacation time, so unless there is a miracle, a change of heart with the powers that be for that store, Mei-Ling will be broken hearted to have to go without her Daddy.  She is a daddy's girl, and they all were so looking forward to this trip together.  Casi's extended family are going too.  I am hoping that with enough prayer and perhaps by bringing this story to the public, maybe the store managers will have a heart and make this little ones dreams come true.

Its A Beautiful Morning

Sunshine at times and gray clouds that come and go.  Winds from the south, bending the tall trees as if they were saplings.  Its not a bad wind, just wind, the kind that comes off the prairie in summer.  The blue jays are squawking at me as I hang up the laundry, they must think I am too close to their favorite spot.  The top of Emery's workshop, which gives them a fine vantage point to view the crow feeder.  They like the crows food as much as Edgar, Allen and Poe like it, and it seems everyone is raising a family right now, so easy food makes life better for these busy parents.  Even the Yellow Bellied Woodpecker is in on the action several times a day and both woodpecker parents hold their own when the blue jays try to shoo they away.   Today there are pumpkin seeds to plant, so we can have lots of pumpkins for baking this fall and of course the children love to pick pumpkins to decorate.   Its an easy sort of day, no pressure to accomplish anything by a certain hour.  No "17 jewels to dictate the rules" as was once said.  I wonder now, how many young people would even know what that refers to.  We live in a digital age.    Last night I wanted potatoes for supper, and had the joy of just walking out to the garden and digging up just what I needed.  And, while there I picked some summer squash and zucchini for our vegetable.  I like knowing the history of our food.  I enjoy remembering the cool spring morning when we planted these things.  I like being able to sit on the old metal truck tool box that sits along the garden fence, under the oak trees and admire whats in the basket of just picked goodies.  Perhaps, I linger longer than I should, sitting there, cross legged, dirt on my hands and feet, listening to the birds sing, the ducks splash in their pool and watching the chickens, all 30 of them, hunt for bugs.   But, time is mine right now, so I lay back on the tool box, looking up at the clouds race across the sky.  Simple pleasures.  Much joy.  I whisper a prayer for my loved ones and tell God, how grateful I am for all that I have in life that fills my heart to overflowing and then decide, its time to get busy.  Life if good.

A New Journey

Today I am embarking on a new journey, one of gentleness with myself. No more races, no more measuring, calories, steps, even years, but I am going to stop the stresses that come from these goals that measure us. Take up our thoughts, consume us. I am simply going to live mindfully. Eat mindfully, walk with purpose, not a goal. Swim with joy until I am tired, savor the moments, not count them, measure them, or let those aspects tell me what I am. Living mindfully in  the moment is freedom. Life is not a race, its not ruled by some man made measuring stick that steals from us the true purpose of the moment. We know what we need to do, we know when we are lazy, we know when we over eat or eat unhealthy food. We also know the freedom that comes from a hike when all that matters is the scenery. We all know the freedom that comes from enjoying a healthy meal, eating mindfully, but without counting, stopping to eat when we are full or just before we are full, without concern of which food "camp" we belong to. We are robbing ourselves of just walking, just breathing, just being.

A New Day

The house is all tidy, just some laundry left to be folded from yesterdays wash day.  Balsam incense are burning, filling the house with a scent that reminds me of camping in New England.  Gentle songs played on the Celtic Harp by Patrick Ball, completes this perfect morning.  The sun is shining so bright, the grass so green after all our recent rains.  The sky, so blue that if you painted it, it would seem garish but God in His wondrous love for us, knows just how to blend the colors so that it all seems perfect.   Life here on our little homestead feels full of order and contentment this morning.  Our wants are few, our needs are few and our gratitude great.  Its a good day.

The Sunshine and The Rain

"Nature and revelation alike testify of God's love. Our Father in heaven is the source of life, of wisdom, and of joy. Look at the wonderful and beautiful things of nature. Think of their marvelous adaptation to the needs and happiness, not only of man, but of all living creatures. The sunshine and the rain, that gladden and refresh the earth, the hills and seas and plains, all speak to us of the Creator's love. It is God who supplies the daily needs of all His creatures."
~Steps To Christ~

My morning in the garden.  Loving this rain that is so badly needed !

A Trip To DIsney, Goal Reached !!!

A Trip To Disney For A Little Princess
How excited Mei-Ling is, her dream will be coming true very soon as she gets to go to Disney with her family.  What makes this trip extra special is the fact that she gets to go the same time as her grandmother, her aunts and uncles and her cousins.  Most of her daddy's family is going too, just as she dreamed.  How happy we are and how grateful we are that so many kind and generous people donated money to make this trip a dream come true.  Thank you to all that gave so generously and made a little girls dream become a reality !

Where Have I Been ?

I am unsure of how it happens, but each and every day of late, my intentions have been to write a bit on here, but something always seems to come up.  Nothing major as measured by the modern worlds standards, but for me, they are moments to be savored, cherished.  Last week, both my daughters were here visiting and watching them with their children gave me such a sense of satisfaction that words would be so inadequate to describe how it made me feel to hear them talk about raising children, and what works and what doesn't.  Hearing their conversations reminded me of how I used to feel, reading issues of Mothering Magazine way back in the 1980's, comforting.  The talk of breast feeding, of cloth diapers, of soothing techniques and about the profound feeling of love that fills them when they are holding their little ones.  It suddenly felt to me as if my heart would burst, from being so overflowing with love, of feeling like I have seen life come full circle.   I watched my grandchildren, the older ones so tender to their new baby cousin.  Mei-Ling singing to him, asking with such concern, about what his needs might be when he cried.  Her feeling of comfort in asking her Auntie about breast feeding, genuinely wanting to know about this miracle way of feeding a baby.   And Melissa, teaching Mei-Ling about how the body works, and doing it with a sort of holy reverence for the beauty of it.  Yen, sharing with us, all the big boy things he wants to teach Axel.  How to play nice, how to share, how to build things.  Watching my girls, love each others children with the very same love they feel for their own.  Tenderhearted.  I sat and watched for a bit as this moment in time came, wanting to engrave it in my memory for all the beauty and depth it contained.   It was a golden reward for me.
Along with such moments as above, there have been hours of garden work, hours of prayer as I pulled weeds and harvested vegetable.  There have been flowers to tend to and roses to pick.  There have been clothes to sew and food to prepare.  A road trip to plan...Durango Colorado is our destination.  Its exciting to plan this trip, its like a honeymoon, the one we never took.
There have been hikes taken and long, lazy afternoons spent on the porch, bird watching or knitting.  Life is good, really good. So full of blessings.  My heart filled with gratitude for all the things in my life, yes, even the more difficult things as they are the refiners fire, the polishing stone.  So, where have I been, here, all this time, living in the moment, taking life in, with big deep breaths.  Loving every minute.

Much To Catch Up....

In mid January, we saw the passing of my father and after nearly two years of caring for him, it was so hard to see him leave u...
