Show and Tell Friday

Kelli over at There is No Place Like Home http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/ hosts a Show and Tell Friday. It's such a fun event, getting to see everyone treasures. This morning as I was thinking about which treasure of mine I would share, and it seems I have many well loved objects to choose from, I looked out the window, musing over what to pick. I saw the reflection of what was before me and knew instantly that I had been missing the boat shall we say as to what is my greatest personal treasure.

It isn't the heirlooms or the trinkets, it isn't some great find from the thrift store, it's the Bible. I have many different bibles, some very old, one from the late 1700's, but its not the binding, the age or the color that matters, its the words in it that guide me, prompt me to work at having more compassion, less judgement of others, its the words that give me hope, and tell me everything will be alright. Its the very thing I own that I should share, not by being pushy, I hate that, but by living the very words found inside. In this very book it tells us in Matthew the 6th Chapter... 19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. "
Makes me feel sad that I have gotten so caught up in what we own, that I forget to share what is really the greatest treasure in my life. I also wonder if I am causing someone to stumble by sharing possessions, might it make someone wish they had something like that, might I be causing them to covet. Blogland is a tricky place, it so often makes us wish for more of what others have. When all we need in life is really quite simple.

I read this morning from my favorite book in the New Testament, James. In the 3rd chapter he writes about two kinds of wisdom. Verse 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
