Healthy Aging

When this book first came out I was pretty excited about it. Not so much for me but for my dad to read. He is a remarkably healthy man of 84, turning 85 in the fall. He golfs, can sit on the floor and get up just about like someone 4 decades younger. His mind is perfect. His wife, my step mother, is 87 and is just as healthy.
My dad drives to Massachusetts or Texas to see his children as if it was a trip 100 miles away, but he is in Florida.
My dad's sister died at age 91, on her way to the casinos in Atlantic city, she was still driving, still had all her mind and was a hoot. I want that kind of quality of life to the end too.
So I bought this book for him as a Christmas present, thinking it would give him some additional information. With his long lived genes, some healthful eating ideas may just keep him going a lot longer.
This week on PBS Dr Weil has been scheduled several times giving the information from this book. I like his writings and have been reading his stuff for years and years. So I watched. Wow, this Healthy Aging stuff was for people my age too ! My husband took me out the night after we saw the show and we bought a copy for ourselves. I also went to the library and checked out the book on tape so I could listen to it while I run.
Amazing information and if like me you wish to embrace aging but at the same time, remain as healthy as possible for as long as possible, then this book is for you. The information is wonderful ! And what I am enjoying most is this whole concept of fighting the common philosophy in the U.S. that aging is some sort of curse. Please read this book or listen to it on Tape. Its worth your time. If you glean one thing from it, its been worth your time. And if you hate the idea of aging, then this book is a must !

I don't mind aging, but I hate not being fit and healthy, so I've reserved this book from my local library. I won't get it until mid-April, so it must be a very popular book :-)

Thanks for the tip. I definitely will get the book and read it and . . hopefully put it into action! I can sit on the floor too . . but I'd never get up! :(

I too hate the way society looks at aging as if we are on a course to being insignificant. Au contraire! We get better as we age, and though we must deal with new challenges, we have new wisdom with which to conquer them. I think it is healthier if we don't view it as aging, but rather as SAGING! You'll find this concept throughout my blog and website, www.fiftyandfurthermore.com. Check it out - I think if you like Dr. Weil's book you will definitely take to the concepts on my site! Great post!
