Working on the Fire Pit
Before the rains came today, Emery and I worked on the new fire pit...o.k. Emery worked and I watched mostly. I did take pictures and make a few video clips to send to Melissa.
Last night the hole was empty of water but this morning it was filled with just about a foot of water, no rain last night...so maybe this is a well in reality.
We had great fun laughing and talking while the work was being done. The hole is pretty deep but that might have to do with the fact that Emery loves to dig holes. Its a joke in our family but has worked out great for all the trees we have planted. He digs great holes for the root systems.
It rained really hard late afternoon and no doubt the hole is full of water again. The ground is so saturated from the weeks of rain.
While we were out there, a huge white fluffy goose (in the form of a cloud) flew over head. Had to snap a photo of that for sure.
My back hall floor is muddy and the washer worked hard tonight getting some very dirty work clothes clean. We have about a foot of top soil in that spot but beyond that, its all red clay. Great for the walls of a fire pit, but not so good on clothes.
We sure have fun around this place. We plan on building the back porch on this summer, or at least that is what we decided today, but the best laid plans are always subject to change.
This house is so full of good memories for us, we raised our children here, had a busy little farm for so many years and now, we are planning for the future. Building on where we want to, enjoying a well established garden, mature fruit and nut trees and knowing this is a good place to grow old in. No debt, all paid for and has been for years. Simple but home. Next week we should be sitting outside enjoying the fire pit, singing songs, roasting marshmallows and forgetting about clocks.

Emery, hard at work getting the water out of the pit so he could work on the walls.
(you know I have to say, he looks pretty fit for turning 62 in a couple weeks)

I haven't done cloud-watching for a while, but it sure is fun.
