A Nightmarish Day
Getting the call, driving to the hospital all felt insane. How can the world just be going along with its business when our world feels like its crashing in on us. Mei-Ling is very sick, sicker than any of us could imagine. I cried, I prayed, we prayed, we cried and yet we had to do stupid ordinary things like stop to get something to eat.
We only know one thing for certain, we need a miracle.
This is a very difficult post to write. Mei-Ling is so very sick, they found she is missing one kidney, her liver is not where it should be and and she has at least two spleens. Right now, her kidney is enlarged and is infected. She also has sepsis, her blood is infected. Her defect is known as heterotaxy polysplenia. Its rare, very rare and the mortality rate is much higher than any of us ever wants to see in print. At this point the Doctors are concentrating on the infection. Later they will consider surgery to see if things can be fixed a bit. We are not sure she will make it, we are praying for a miracle.
The tiny one is so pale and listless. So much pain, her sobs are heartbreaking.
We know for sure that she will be in the hospital for a minimum of two weeks, no doubt longer.
Please say a prayer for her. Please get everyone you know who prays to pray for her. Nothing is too hard for God, nothing.

Melanie and Casi need your prayers too.

Our Father will either shield you from worry or He will give you strength to bear it.

I googled "heterotaxy polysplenia" and found a forum that you might like to read.
There were comments from parents of infants with the congenital problem, as well as from adults, one in her fifties, with the diagnosis.
One four year old was very ill, and is now doing well. She had a very severe infection at one point.
There are comments from lots of people dealing with the condition.
It definitely looks hopeful.
Puting out lots of prayers.

Praying for Mei-Ling and all of your family - that this precious little one will be healed and that you will all experience God's strength and peace.
I have read your blog for quite some time. You are always an inspiration. I have never commented before, but I had to let you know that I will be in prayer for all of you. I really can't imagine the heartbreak you are experiencing, but I can pray and pray I will.

"Into your hands I commend Mei-Ling, her body and soul and all things...."
You mentioned the babie's blood is infected - will she have to have a blood transfusion? If so is there anyway we can make a blood donation in her name? I am located here in SE Texas.
I will be praying for Mei-Ling very often - As often as I look into the eyes of my newborns. They arrived 6/4 and are very small compared to the photos you show of your grandbaby born only a few weeks before them.
Patty, thank youfor updating us and know that God is with you.. I pray that you stay strong. ~Bonnie in SE Texas
