"Let Us Go Back"

Let Us Go Back

~Thomas Curtis Clark~

Let us go back

To the simpler and better things.

Let us retrace our steps

From our greed-born bickerings

Back to the quietness

Of plain, good friendliness.

Let us go back

To the old roads of beauty's quest.

Let us again find joy

In the fields and the woods, possessed

By the thrill of the spring,

And of summer wandering.

Let us go back

To old-fashioned content, our wealth

Found in the garden nooks,

And beneath home roofs.

Let the health

Of the trees and the grass

Be ours, as the seasons pass.

I feel this way today. Weary of all the new ideas, new concepts, new approaches to how we should live our lives. We are bombarded daily by television shows, computer items, blogs, radio and of course stores and magazines on what we should be doing and what we must have or do in order to have a "quality" life.
I am weary of all the "must do's and must have's".
We have been digging potatoes. We have dirty fingernails, hair all a mess, sweat on our brows. But we also have sat together under the cottonwood, refreshed in the breeze, chatting, planning, happy with an old fashioned contentment on just living life simply. It feels so good.

It gets so tiring doesn't it? Do we really need so many improvements and changes and such? I just want to live quietly and happily in my little home with my hubby and my friends on here for company. I don't need the hundreds of gadgets and new, new, new all the time.

I totally agree! And I love to dig potatoes. My grandfather would call me when his were ready to dig and I would make the 2 1/2 hr drive to dig them for him. It's like finding gold in the dirt!

My devotion today was "In quietness and confidence shall be your strength." ...my hubby and I decided to ride to the ocean today ....sit on the dock with a fresh haddock fish sandwich and enjoy the quietness of the sea...the birds..listen to the boats as they creaked in their places...the couple in a boat..how refreshing...a wonderful day...simplicity is the key to life...Maine

Hi Linda,
at this point I am tired of digging potatoes and there is so much dirt embedded under my nails it feels a bit uncomfortable, but I sure will love eating some steamed new potatoes for supper !

Hi Margo.....oh I am so jealous, Haddock is my favorite fish of all time. I grew up eating it in so many forms, including finn and haddie. My sister went to Maine today, York Beach and said the ocean was gorgeous. Nubble light was their sitting and watching the waves destination. So glad you had a nice day
