An Update on Mei-Ling

Thank you all so much for the prayers. Last night when I was fighting worry and anxiety, I took comfort in knowing you were all praying for this miracle baby.
Mei-Ling will be fine. She has another bad urinary tract infection....or more correctly she never got over the last one, the antibiotic she was on evidently did not work. All this tells us that another surgery has to be done soon. Her one and only kidney has to be protected. This will make a third surgery to try and fix her Grade V Vesicoureteral Reflux. The last surgery was a 5 hour event.
Mei-Ling is home, the Doctor didn't think she needed to be admitted but sent her home on two new medications. The emergency room at the childrens hospital was so busy last night. They took the baby in at about 7:30 p.m. and got home at 3:30 a.m. Waiting 6 hours to see the Doctor . We pray now that these medications do the job.
My father always said, that "there are no atheists in a fox hole." And last night I thought you could add to that saying, "There are no atheist Grandparents that have a grandblessing that is medically fragile." (just a saying folks so if you are an atheist, understand there is no need to email me to say there are) There is a comfort in prayer and in faith that washes over us in times of need, maybe more so when its ordinary to have this line of communication with God.
Emery and I were out for our Friday night date and found the message on our answering machine when we got home, that Mei-Ling was hysterical in pain and could not be comforted, she had also vomited (there is always a fear of malrotation with her) so they were rushing her to the hospital. Before I even called Emery over to hear the message, I had prayed and that hasty prayer gave me a feeling that a life line was on its way for our precious Mei-Ling.
While we waited for news, I sought comfort in my old worn out purple Bible. The very same Bible I held in my hands as Melanie lay so close to death as a seven year old. Told she probably would not make it through the night, I pleaded with God, searched for verses that would give me some assurance that He was hearing my prayer...and this is the verse I have highlighted in this old Bible from that difficult hour in time. The date next to it always serves as a reminder of that nightmarish time in our lives.

Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Pat, I am so glad they let her come home and the pain has eased up for her. We will continue to lift this wee miracle to the Heavenly Father.
Poor little girl--so many alarms in such a young life. I kept her name in my thoughts last night--like a chiming bell, offering it to God as prayer.
