Seeking Wisdom For These Troubled Times
Many of us feel a sense of uncertainty in this present state of economic struggle. We wonder what the future will hold. Will there be another Great Depression ? Will we have a job next year ? Will we be able to afford heat this winter ? But, with all the possibilities, we can know for certain one thing, God has not abandoned us. We may just be getting a little reminder that our greedy actions lead us not to Him but from Him. Its hard to hold onto faith when everything around you that once seemed so sure, seems to be crumbling, but God does not forsake His people.
Matthew 6 tells us in verse 25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?.....33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
We do need to seek Him first though, His promises seem a bit conditional. That is the part we don't like to hear. I admitt, I don't like that its conditional.
Jeremiah 29: 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Jeremiah 29: 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
These are words we need to cling to when things feel so uncertain. We need to know and feel what the word assurance means. I do believe in all my heart that we have an opportunity right now to turn from the direction of feeding our wants and turn from a self centered mentality and head back to a simpler life, a life where we can stop to smell the flowers and listen for that tender voice of a gentle loving Father. Maybe these days are a wake up call for us and the wisdom we need to live in this time is found in a very old book.
