The News on Mei-Ling

A very long day......I drove Melanie and Mei-Ling to the hospital this morning and while we waited for her room to be ready, we walked the labyrinth in the prayer garden at the hospital. Mei-Ling loved the flowers and being outside in the sunshine. It was a pleasant moment in a difficult day for this wee one. They tried 5 times to get an IV started with no luck at all. They even called in the CareFlight transport team to try and get the IV started but her tiny veins would not co-operate. The Doctor decided that they would leave her with out an IV and figure something out if they had to, meaning if there was an emergency. She was so tired from crying while they worked on her that she slept soundly by afternoon time.
The plan is to remove the nephrostomy tube tomorrow morning and if all goes well, no emergencies like last hospital stay, she may be able to come home late tomorrow afternoon.
This tiny one is such a sweet little person, even after all the pain today, she smiled at everyone who talked to her. She could teach many people a lesson on being strong yet sweet natured no matter how difficult the circumstances.

That's so tough watching the numerous IV tries. I know it's only an IV but watching someone poke your sweet baby when it's just not working is still pretty hard. During Cooper's last hospital stay, he had his IV restarted so many times that his hands and feet were too bruised up for them to get one in anymore so they finally had to shave his head and put it in his scalp. That was just SO hard to watch. After about a week we were allowed to take him home for a few hours at a time on a pass and when I brought him with me to pick Owen up from preschool, the other parents were so rude. They wouldn't even look at him because of his IV (which was bandaged up) on his head. The kids at the school were much better though. They'd come and ask what was on his head but they'd listen to my explanation and then say "he's such a cute little baby". They might have been curious like the parents but at least they were able to still acknowlege him and tell me he was cute.
