A Rather Ordinary Day

Last night we all hopped in our car and headed out to watch the fireworks. No one much felt like getting into the crowds or the traffic where the local fireworks are set off, so we opted for the hospital parking lot. We also figured that Mei-Ling might be afraid of the noise if we got too close. Emery took us all out for pizza, then we headed off to find the perfect parking spot. As is our custom, we brought along some snacks to munch on while we waited for the show to start.
Sicilian lemonade was my drink of choice, the men folk thought it a bit on the sour side, but I sure like it. Milano cookies, and cheesepuffs were the chosen treats to munch on. Mei-Ling had her own baby cheesepuffs and her own juice. We spread a quilt on the grass, and played with the baby and watched a magnificent sunset. The fireworks didn't start until 10 p.m. but it was worth the wait. The wee one looked on in awe as the sky lit up with the magical display of color bursting forth in the black night sky. I had a hard time knowing which to watch, the fireworks or Mei-Lings face light up with childlike wonder . We had a wonderful time. The breeze on the hillside was fantastic. Cooling, soothing and everything you have ever heard good about summer breezes was there for us last night. We all thought if we had a pillow and blanket with us, we may have just camped out there for the entire night. Of course the hospital security personnel may have taken a dim view of that idea : )
The best part of the evening...being with family, building memories.
Melissa and James spent the evening with friends, and not sure if Steven and Priscilla celebrated in any way, 4th of July is not exactly a big celebration for Mennonites.

I am glad ya'll had fun. It is fun to watch a child see fireworks for the first couple of times. Mei Ling sure looks like her Daddy in that picture.

Sounds like a great family evening. I have memories of countless such gatherings. Lately we've all gone to my sister's, but that didn't happen this year as half of us are in Greece. The most we did here was play Handel's "Overture to the Royal Fireworks"!!!
