Many times upon entering someone's house I have thought about how much you learn about a person just from looking at what is around. You learn about what art they like, what style of decorating tells something about a person. You find out if they are hoarders, collectors or into starkness. You find out if they are neat nicks or tend to slack off. Just take a bit of an inventory to discover what your host is like. Are things really important to them? Does that show right off ?
You can even get an idea of how important God is to their home. Are there any reminders on the walls that God is the head of the home ?
Are their book cases handy or hidden away in some extra room? What kind of books do they read ? Are there shelves of paperbacks or hardbacks ? Are there Bibles around ?
What sort of things take the most important place in being displayed ?
Now, walk out your own front door. Stand there a minute and then enter your own house as if you were a stranger, entering for the first time. What do you see ? What sort of smells greet you ? When you sit down in the spot you most often offer to a guest, what is the view from that spot ?
After doing this little exercise myself we decided to find something to be seen as soon as you walk in the house, so straight across from the front door is this new sign.

I have that scripture on my wall too! It's a little painted heart that faces the front door when you walk into the house :-)
