Indian Paint Brush

Indian Paint Brush or Castilleja indivisa is a genus of parasitic plants that must tap into the roots of other plants for their nutrients. These are the first I have seen this year. They look a bit pale to me.
I found them on the side of a road near my house. The late afternoon sun shining on them. In the weeks to come there will be more and they will bloom next to the Texas Bluebonnets. Just not sure how good the wildflowers will be this year with our drought.
