Dinosaur Valley State Park
We woke to a pretty spring day. Temperatures in the low 70's. Clear blue sky, light wind. Perfect day for our hike. We chose to head off to Dinosaur Valley State Park. You can view many dinosaur foot prints in the river bed there when the water level is not too high. The Paluxy River makes a perfect horseshoe shape through the park which makes for some pretty scenery. We chose to hike the rim, about 8 miles of it. It seemed it was all up hill with very little down hill, now of course that was just my perception of the hike, not reality, as there was still plenty of down hill. Its a moderate hike, with some good climbing to it. Certainly a work out.
We sat by the river when it was lunch time and ate to the sound of the water falling over the rocks. I waded a bit but the water was kinda chilly.
At the end we had to ford the river and that was down right cold and the rocks were slippery. As soon as we crossed the river and were sort of moaning at the prospect of hiking 2 miles of roadway to get back to our car, my husband saw a man he had worked with and the man offered us a ride in the back of his pick-up truck to our car. We heartily accepted the ride. Saved us 2 miles. The beauty of the hike was breathtaking. We also got to watch a special crew cleaning sand and mud that came from the last big rains away from some of the dinosaur prints .
I took about 90 pictures. It was just such a perfect hiking day. Can't wait to go back and do more of the trails. We used a new back pack today and it was good and comfortable, no rubbing at all. I am sure we will both sleep well tonight !
