A Bit of A Wander Around Home

Melanie and Casimir are at the Children's hospital taking the CPR class and preparing to bring Mei-Ling home tomorrow. I took opportunity to clean the stove, do laundry and clean a bit, so that I can have time to play with this sweet miracle when she comes home. The three of them will stay with us for a few days while Melanie continues to heal as Casi is at work all day. Melanie's blood sugars still are not stable so we like to keep an eye on her. It seems she gets so low without even realizing it. This is new to all of us, as she has always been able to tell when she is getting low.
I went out back to stroll around, checking out the progress of the garden, checking the fruit trees, pulling up a potato plant to see how near to harvest they are. Played with the kittens for a bit, and let the duck loose for the first time. He/She was a bit timid and it took some time before it was ready to explore the bigger world.
The air is heavy with humidity today. Summer like weather. I have the windows open, and the ceiling fans on, but we don't even have the air conditioners in the windows yet. Too much air conditioning is not good for a person they now say. Sweating helps get rid of toxins in your body anyway, so a bit of heat is good for you.
Tiny figs are now appearing on our fig tree, and there is a slight blush on the apricots and the peaches. They won't be ready to eat for some time, but you can see this tiny bit of color coming on. Onions are about ready to be harvested too. Mullein stalks are coming up, blossoms not far off. I will pluck them carefully with tweezers and put them in a jar of olive oil or almond oil and use it for ear ache medicine. I love walking in this quiet natural world of mine. The busy-ness of the world seems a long way off to me during these moments. There is time to marvel at the colors on a moth, or head the rose bushes knowing I am doing something good for the bush. There is so much to see. Grapes growing big. Cilantro in flower. Fennel with bushy fern like growth. Soapwort about to bloom. And right this moment, a wonderful man pulled into the driveway. Home after a busy day selling barns and cabins. Its always so good to hear him come through the door, saying "how's my gal tonight? "
His smile says so much to me. Supper on the stove, a clean cloth set on our kitchen table, birds singing the day is done. The sun sinking in the west, casting a golden glow through my living room windows. I just love this day for all its blessings.
Tomorrow, a celebration. Steven and Priscilla are bringing pizza, I will make iced tea and a goodie for dessert. Mei-Ling will be home and that is surely Gods mercy.

On the menu tonight....
Frito pie
4 cans of beans in chili sauce
1 package of morning star crumbles (frozen veggie hamburger substitute) You can use a pound of hamburger cooked in place of the veggie meat.
1 bag of Fritos
grated cheddar cheese

Crush some Fritos and layer on the bottom of a casserole dish, mix beans and crumbles together and layer on top of the crushed Fritos. Layer with some grated cheddar cheese. On top of that layer some whole Fritos and if you like add a bit more cheese and bake for 30 minutes at 350 F. Simple but good.
I told you all, I don't often follow a recipe and this is no exception !

A sweet and wise poem....

Today
by Virginia W. McPheeters

Yesterday's tomorrow is here today.
The time for delay is past.
"I'll do it tomorrow" we often say
But tomorrow is here at last.

Don't put off again that kind deed you'd do.
Don't fail to right any wrong.
Bring all the gladness to others you can
For today doesn't last very long.

Tomorrow's yesterday is here now today
So be careful of all that you do.
Make each hour worthwhile and to all give a smile
And you'll find joy in remembrance, too.

Don't regret what is past of fear what's ahead.
Now's the time, whatever others might say,
To make each tomorrow and each yesterday
the best that you can - today.

The Kittens
A pear, growing on our tree
A Moths beauty on the fig tree
Mullein, nearly ready to bloom
The duck on his/her first day of freedom
Potatoes, just dug up

I am glad the baby will be home soon! She is such a pretty baby. Hugs to baby, mom, dad and grandmom. :)

Those kittens are too cute by the way!

Those kittens are looking so cute. It's wonderful Mei-Ling is so close to coming home. I think Melanie is going to need her mum now more than ever. It must be very worrying for you with her diabetes being such a problem. Take care.
