Cold Winter Day

Winter has made a come-back. It's colder than cold and we are expecting 3-5 inches of snow today. The poor birds are seeking food and shelter any place they can find it.
The morning doves hid themselves in the Osage orange tree for a while, until the wind and sleet began to beat down too hard on them. A lone goldfinch sat in the red oak, that is just starting to show signs of spring on its branches. This tiny colorful bird would fly off to the nearby feeders for a bite. Birds need food to maintain their body temperature.
The goats are smart and will not venture out of their snug barn. The chickens content to just stay in the hen house where its dry.

Oh, that sounds just lovely. Oddly, summer has made a comeback here, just as I thought we were heading into Autumn. It's hot and blustery - as I drove back from town, a dust storm blew wispy clouds of Panic Weed across the road. It's overcast and rather muggy.

Next year we'll be moving to a colder place, and people have said 'oh, but it's so cold there!' ... but I'm kind of looking forward to having a 'real' winter, getting out my coat and boots!

oh, I meant that to be on the cozy post. The birds being hungry is not so lovely. Here in Australia, there is usually quite a bit of food around in the winter, because of the rain.
You have such a nice blog and I really enjoyed looking at it this morning. We have alot of osage orange trees at our camp in PA. We call the green osage oranges monkey balls. They make a mess when they fall but we always enjoyed throwing them into the creek. Have a nice day.
