The Gentleness of the Morning

The rain has refreshed and gladdened the earth. Even a small rain shower has felt like a huge blessing. There was a gentleness about this morning chores. A soft song of nature, a breeze knocking rain drops off the leaves of the pecan tree, hitting the metal roof of the barn. Bird song, bugs humming, a cats meow, a goats low grunt of contentment.
The rain not only refreshed the earth, it has refreshed me as well. Our neighbor was out in his garden, going about his business with a lighter step. Harvesting tomatoes like I will do in a bit. I plan the evening meal in my head while brushing the goats. Collard greens are plentiful, tomatoes too. A piece of fish, maybe some rice...yes, that's the meal for tonight. If it stays cool, then perhaps some dessert too. The oven on, really heats up the kitchen and we joke so many times about how the cool air from the dinning room window AC, meet the hot air from the oven right where the ceiling fan is in the kitchen. Perfect conditions for a storm : )
Oh, there is no milk in the fridge, so I will have to think of a milk free dessert to make.
Dishes done, stove cleaned, furniture polished, a cup of tea waiting for me and a stack of fabric begging to be cut into blocks for a new quilt.

the view from the kitchen down the hallway to the living room
rain on the grass
a rose, heavy with rain drops
birds feeding on the sunflower seeds
a sky full of hope for more rain
