Lamp Time

It's a weekly job, more often in winter when the days are longer, but not a job I mind, as the end results are wonderfully clean chimneys with full lamps for hours of gentle light in the dark time of the day. When the children were little, lamplight always calmed them, readied them for sleep. Something about lamplight is soothing, restful and presents the home in hushed tones.
The soft light flickering on the table brings out conversation and quiet thoughts.
The work is worth it, just for those wonderful moments in the night, just before bed when the light is gentle and sweet.
Soon to be washed chimneys, trimmed wicks, full lamps, ready to chase the darkness away

I love oil lamp light especially in the winter time...

they are certainly better in winter as they actually give off some heat. Not much fun to sit by in the heat of the summer : )
Glad we have electricity for summer nights

I loved it when my only lights were oil lamps. It is such a cozy warm glow. I would use only the oil lamps now, but it is cheaper to use electricity. =(

I absolutely agree that there is something coothing and calming about lamplight. It can even make washing dishes a more enjoyable task. It's the combination of the flickering lamplight reflecting in the kitchen window, the bubbles and the warm water, and the sense of accomplishment in the tray of clean dishes. Hmmm ... should probably do them this way more often!!
Where did you get all those wonderful lamps? That's quite a collection. I really like the double one!
