Cold Rainy Day

Woke to the sound of rain, and thunder.  Lightening flashing across the sky, breaking the dark in two.   Yesterday, we were outside with short sleeves and this morning the wind chill was in the 20's F.  It was no morning for breakfast on the porch, but I did give it a try, simply because I love being outside.  Even holding a cup of hot coffee could not keep my hands warm.  I gave up, came inside and started a fire in the stove.
Chores needed to be done, bird feeders filled.  A not so pleasant find of a rather large snake in the nesting box, eating eggs.   I usually just reach in to grab the eggs, but when I was about 2 inches from the eggs, I happened to look in and find something there that did not belong there.
Its not the first time this has happened and I doubt it will be the last, but since I am not a fan of snakes, its never pleasant.  Lets just say, in this case, the farmer won in the end.  Farm life is not always roses and abundant harvests.  But, I would not trade this life for anything.  The simplicity of each day, the good feelings that come from hard work, and the knowledge that you can take care of matters at hand, makes it all worth it.

Beautiful bird; really yucky snake! Do I dare ask what type of snake it is?
So glad you looked first and that the farmer won:)
Blessings, Aimee
Oh, that would ruin my morning!
Glad you looked before you reached.

Wowser, that's a big snake! Having a deep fear of snakes myself, I would not have wanted to greet that one in the morning. My coop is up about 3 1/2 feet off the ground and luckily so far, we've not see that problem. Those roses are just amazing! Blessing, ~Vonnie, NH

Super cool picture of the snake with egg inside. May I forward it to my Science teacher?
Gave me the shivers to be sure---but still---super cool.
