Happy July !

Breakfast on the porch with my knitting.  Socks for Gorman the gnome.  Mei-Ling has wondered why he did not have sock so, socks he shall have.  Next he needs some new pants as his are always falling down, which we cannot have !   The summer evenings have been spent on the porch too, often times take two of our meals out there, enjoying the sights and sounds around us.  Hot days, we have the fan going to move the air a bit.
Angel Trumpet plants are growing tall in the pots in front of the porch, two yellow, one white and one pink.  Candelabra plant is growing big too, but not as big as the one growing in the garden.

We have created for ourselves a bit of a haven, a place of relaxation and comfort.  Birds singing all around us during the day and, in the evening crickets and now cicadas sing to us while fireflies dance about in the dark.  In the garden, butterflies flutter all around, making me so thankful that I planted so many things they are attracted too.  I never tire of surrounding myself with nature.  Its meditation of the highest form for me.
The morning sun is just a bit bright right now, so I made some window panels to the east facing windows of the porch.  Fabric purchased on sale at Ikea last fall, perfect for the windows.  We had not even screened in the porch when I purchased the fabric, but i liked it and thought it might be cute some place, some time.  And, it is !  Hung on tension rods, easily removed in bad weather and easy to pull the curtain aside when not needed.  A simple solution to morning sun hitting me in the face as I knit or have breakfast.

Simple pleasures, simple life, for us, equals a lot of happiness.

Our east facing porch is also getting a bit too warm for morning coffee at 6:30. A few overcast days have meant we could sit there in comfort. The former owners had bamboo blinds which they put up to shade the porch. We haven't done that as it would also screen one of our nicest views.
Your fabric shades are a nice alternative.
