The Joy of A Simple Life

Evening came in with a gentleness like the touch of a loved one, soft and tender. Emery and I working side by side, setting up our new composter and covering the tender vegetation in the garden. Another cold night with promise of wind chills in the 20's tomorrow morning. A frost warning for tomorrow night. The tulips I planted last month, after spending months in the crisper drawer in the fridge are just about to bloom and they will love this cold snap. Bits of bright red are just now beginning to show on them. Emery and I both stop to look at tiny apricots growing and the bunches of grapes so small and fragile looking. There is a peace to our work, a peace to our life, a peace to the words that flow from our lips. A peace that spreads to the lives of our children and our children's children.
Tiny kittens, big cats that keep the barn free of mice, goats that give delicious milk. All part of this peaceful life. Harry roaming the fence lines, our protector, our loyal friend. Chickens keep the bug population down which helps our crops and give us eggs to eat.
Iris bloom in shaded of purple and a few bright yellow ones. The driveway lined with flowers, bright and showy. Our garden. Spinach in the sink, washed and rewashed, ready to steam and eat. Life began in a garden, and later, in another garden, The garden of Gethsemane, a life ready to give all.
Life is good and I am so thankful that I live surrounded by a garden, that makes each day a simple blessing.
