Looking For Enlightenment

Enlightenment is just another word for feeling
comfortable with being a completely ordinary person."
~Veronique Vienne~

This is pretty profound if you think about it, since hardly anyone is comfortable in their own skin. Being able to be yourself, your "authentic self" as they say today, is indeed what being enlightened is all about. You can see life so openly then, no games played, no superficial motives to say things with a hidden agenda. No baiting people into confrontations, there is no need for that when you are comfortable in who you are. No need to be extraordinary. Maybe this search for enlightenment is easier to go after if we don't have to look at being ourselves and being rather ordinary. If we chase after enlightenment, thinking some guru has the truth or that in saying some mantra it will happen, or in penance or hours of silent meditation. With some of these methods we remove the opportunity to look openly at ourselves and learn to be comfortable with who we are. Perhaps, in being a completely ordinary person, we are free to see life clearly and not have to live up to some image set up by others. We can stand back and look at life with open eyes and without a veil, which will give us vision, so clear that we can be real .

Photo today, the cottonwood tree in our yard is so parched last week from lack of rain that it was shedding its leaves.
