Thanks from this Canadian. Our family celebrated the by going to a little recreated "heritage" village of the rural Nova Scotia 40s, to try panning for gold, and eating donuts fresh from the donut machine. (Remember the Homer Price story?) The kids tried three legged races, sack races, and stilts. I wasn't sure if the kids would like it much, but they loved it. It gave me even more inspiration to "keep it simple."
