Lifes Simple Pleasures

When you are greeted each day with the beauty of creation, it is food for the soul. Birds flying about, singing as they stop on a branch for a moment. Flowers hanging from the trees filling the air with sweetness. Flowers in bloom, colors that draw your eye to them. Fresh greens plucked from the garden, food for breakfast. Little puppy barks breaking the silence. Maddox thinks he is a big man about town, trying to herd the chickens already. Smart puppy, comes to his name and still letting us know when a trip outside is needed. Some of you have asked about Harry....well, we found out the hard way, that he was named Harry after Harry Houdini, the escape artist. One morning Harry climbed the fence, I watched him do it, and in a second he was out in the pasture, on a killing spree, 10 chickens in a matter of no more than 5 minutes. He would not stop, would not come to me. I was heart sick, not only for the loss of so many good laying hens, but that Harry would not be called off.

We opted to give Harry away to some folks that have other Irish Wolf hounds and no chickens. Harry is happy. I shed many many tears over this. We had felt confident that we had devised a system that kept dog and chicken from coming in contact, but Harry found a way around 4 ft stock panel and a 4 foot gate as if they were just a foot tall.

Maddox has little short legs, which should keep him from climbing any fences like Harry did, plus we are hoping his red heeler genes combined with the herding instinct of a corgi will be a good mix with the other critters here.

Today I feel blessed to live such a simple life that there is time to smell the roses, drink in the beauty of creation and have time to walk in silence with a prayer of praise on my lips.

Housework can wait on days like this. I would rather be a Mary over a Martha any way.

Seeking today to....
