Even just after WW2 we had only a copper for washing and my mum ironed with a flat iron and didn't have a vacuum cleaner and I don't ever really remember seeing her sit down and relax, she was always busy. Most people have no idea how hard and tiring it was to run a home in the 'good old days' - I don't mind playing at it occasionally but I don't think I'd like to live that way full time. Thanks for the info about the Comanche - I must look up and find out more about them.Rowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13679130612798888266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16161087.post-1159255693912652382006-09-26T00:28:00.000-07:002006-09-26T00:28:00.000-07:00Hi Patty,Yes those days must be hard and a great m...Hi Patty,

Yes those days must be hard and a great memorie at the same time! It is not that long ago that you lived that way.. In my mind people live "simple" a 100 years ago.

Your daughter wrote it very good! But we are all happy to have moved away from that life and feel more intergrated into society.Pattyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08505042214124811641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16161087.post-1159230201841921462006-09-25T17:23:00.000-07:002006-09-25T17:23:00.000-07:00Melanie has it right - there is nothing simple abo...Melanie has it right - there is nothing simple about that life. Hard work and "simple" don't belong in the same sentence! And there certainly is a different kind of stress. When I was a kid I used to tell my mother that I wish I'd been a pioneer. She always said "No, you just think that. You would not have liked it at all." As I grew I learned to read between the lines of all her stories of homesteading on the Arizona desert. All I had to do was look at her bent back from carrying a yoke and two buckets of water by the time she was five, and crippled feet that came from wearing shoes too small - no money for enough shoes for that many children. They may have had a donkey apiece, but they were not pets. There is no way I'd trade my life for that one. Yes, I have some stress but I've learned how to deal with it - that's what we all must do in order to stay happy and healthy. And yes - the kids learned to work hard from an early age on - but then so did we and so did my kids. The work was different - not damaging to ours or their bodies thank goodness - but it was still work and we were expected to do it. I know your children will raise their children with those values also, even if they never farm or have any animals other than dogs and or cats.

Thank you so much for your card - it came today. I'm looking forward to some pictures on you blog showing us what you do with what I sent you.Pattihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07125491177774966237noreply@blogger.com
